Frequently asked questions
Can't find an answer to your question? Please contact Kate to discuss your project in more detail.
What do your services cost?
Because every writing project is different, Kate prefers to supply you with a tailored quote that reflects your particular requirements. However, as a guide, costs start at $35 per 1000 words for proofreading only. A student discount of 20% is available on all services. Payment can be made by cheque/money order or bank transfer.
How do you make changes to my document?
Kate can make changes to either a hard copy or electronic copy of your document. For hard copy documents, Kate uses traditional proofreading marks to note her suggested changes. You will then need to type in the changes you decide to accept. For electronic documents, Kate uses the Track Changes function in Microsoft Word. You can then accept or reject these changes and they will be updated automatically. Most people find that using Track Changes saves them a lot of time. However, some universities prefer that editors work on hard copies of students' documents, so you should check with your faculty.
How long does editing take?
The amount time Kate will need to edit your work will depend on the length of the document and the type of editing required. Kate will advise you of the estimated time required before commencing work on your document. She will always do her best to fit into your time frame.
How do I know why you have suggested a particular change to my document?
With every document she edits, Kate provides a set of notes explaining her suggested changes. She is also happy to discuss any of her suggestions over the phone, if required.
My document needs to follow a particular style guide or referencing style. Can you do this?
No problem! Simply provide Kate with a copy of your style guide or referencing style and she'll make sure that your document is edited and formatted correctly.
I don't have a style guide for you to follow. Is this a problem?
Not at all. Many people who don't have a style guide of their own use The Style Manual for Authors, Editors and Printers, which is the style guide for Australian Government publications. Alternatively, Kate can work with you to develop your own style guide, which you can then use for future documents.
I'm a research student. Are you allowed to edit my thesis?
Yes. However, any editing that Kate does on your thesis must comply with the Guidelines for Editing Research Theses published by the Institute of Professional Editors. You should also check with your faculty about their policy on the editing of theses. Kate offers a 20% student discount on all of her services.
