About Kate Machin
Kate Machin has been helping people improve their writing for more than 10 years.
Having written and edited many documents for academic, government and private sector organisations, Kate understands the importance of communicating complex ideas in a reader-friendly way. She is passionate about making documents clear, well-structured and easy to read.
Since going freelance in 2006, Kate has edited a range of government reports, postgraduate theses, training guides and non-fiction books, covering topics as diverse as urban sprawl to the history of Burmese literature. She has also created style guides to help writers maintain consistency throughout their documents.
Rather than imposing a particular writing style on documents, Kate likes to work with authors to improve their own style of writing so that their individual voice shines through.
In her spare time, Kate is a volunteer proofreader for Project Gutenberg, helping to make some of the world's greatest books freely available online. She is also a member of both the Society of Editors Victoria and the Victorian Writers' Centre and regularly teaches short courses in non-fiction editing.
